Primary Sports Funding

The government currently provides additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – is being allocated to primary school headteachers.  The funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At Newhall Community Junior School, we are using the funding to provide sustained improvement in PE/Sports provision and raise achievement for all pupils in sport.

Our priorities mean that the funding for 2016-2017will:

  • Develop staff expertise in teaching PE and sport, through providing additional training and professional development.
  • Increase levels of activity provided during Lunch Breaks through provision of Play Leaders who will lead activities and support Mid Day staff in developing their skills.
  • Increase participation in district and county-wide competitions and tournaments through membership of the local sports partnership.
