Diversity and Inclusion

Educate & Celebrate is an Ofsted and DFE recognised Award Programme that gives staff, students, parents and governors the confidence and strategies to implement an LGBT+Inclusive curriculum to successfully eradicate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia from our nursery, primary and secondary schools, colleges, Universities, organisations and communities.

 

Focusing on 5 core areas, the award programme invites teachers, students, parents and governors to participate in creating positive whole school change through training, policy, curriculum, community and environment.

Pride in Inclusion Award

In order to achieve the award at school, highly skilled and experienced trainers will support us through the change process. All trainers have led the Award Programme in schools allowing them to share their extensive knowledge and strategies with us on our journey to inclusion.

 

Over the 12-month programme we have access to:

  • Phone, email and face-to-face support throughout from your personal trainer and Educate & Celebrate
  • Two CPD days for your lead members of staff
  • Delivery of a staff meeting
  • A PRIDE Book collection for your library and classrooms
  • Merchandise, classroom resources and promotional materials
  • Free access to resources in our members only area
  • Two visits from a regional trainer
  • The facilitation of a PRIDE Youth Network
  • An action plan, timeline of activities and targets in five core areas
  • Participation in our regional activities and competitions
  • Participation in our annual PRIDE Youth Network Conference

'All Different. All Equal' Bookmarks

To combine our whole-school focus of Reading with the UK annual LGBT History month, we invited the children to create a bookmark using the theme ‘All Different. All Equal’.  A selection of winning entries have been reproduced and turned into bookmarks that will be readily available in the school library.

Policy Updates 2020

Following a review of subject specific policies, all Subject Leaders have now added a section entitled  'Equal opportunities, Special Needs and Equality' into their Intent, Implementation and Impact statements.

 

All children should have access to the Curriculum in line with the school’s Equal Opportunities Policy, the SEND policy and Equality Policy.  Teachers should aim to provide effective learning opportunities for all pupils by:

  • Setting suitable learning challenges.
  • Responding to pupils diverse learning, religious and cultural needs.
  • Overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils.

 

If necessary the SENDCo and the Subject Co-ordinator will advise teachers on teaching activities relevant to pupils with special educational needs including more able pupils.

Building Cohesive Communities forms part of the Educate & Celebrate Best Practice Programme.
